Selenskyj does not travel to Ukraine talks in Istanbul
Hanging game in Istanbul: Ukraine talks are delayed
The planned first direct discussions between Ukraine and Russia have been a hanging game for around three years. Both parties to war emphasize their willingness to talk, but it is still not clear whether and when the meeting will come – still today or only on Friday. Despite the cancellation of Kremlin chief Putin, Kyiv sends a delegation to Istanbul. The Ukrainian President Selenskyj himself, who met in Ankara with Turkish President Erdogan, does not want to take part in the planned talks.
The Ukrainian delegation is headed by Defense Minister Rustam Umjerow, who also belonged to the supporters in discussions with the representatives of the White House. The Ukrainian diplomats still want to be in Istanbul on Friday. Selenskyj clarifies the mandate of negotiating a ceasefire. The Russian delegation had Putin’s order to negotiate the conflict, said negotiator Vladimir Medinski. It continues where the talks were canceled three years ago. Russia is prepared for constructive conversations and compromises.
