Security and fellowship require knowledge, not simplifications
Responsive to Frp’s post « Problem’s behavior deprive the security of the classmates » Published in Altaposten 5 May, and « Politics in the wrong direction » Published March 3.
Both posts express concern about increased violence and insecurity in Alta – both in school and in society. We at Alta SV share the desire for security for everyone, but we believe the solutions presented, simplify a serious problem and risk making the situation worse.
Violence and unrest are complex challenges. There are no quick solutions, and it does not help to distribute blame to specific groups. Such simplifications can lead to stigmatization and increased distance instead of creating community and prevention.
Alta SV believes that:
-
Prevention and community must be the basis. Safe school environment is created through a strong team around the students, early efforts, good leisure facilities, and safe adults – both at home and in school.
-
School change should not be a general tool. Although in some situations it may be correct, this must be decided professionally and concrete, in consultation with the schools. Alta’s school leaders already have the tools and assessment ability to handle such cases in a responsible manner.
-
The municipality must have confidence in the police and the judiciary. When serious incidents occur, they should be investigated and handled by the right bodies. The school and the municipality will contribute with support and measures, but we will not take over roles belonging to the court system.
-
We must build security through justice. It involves meeting challenges with knowledge -based measures – not with rhetoric that point out individual groups. We must strengthen inclusion and belonging, not reinforce outsiders.
Alta SV wants an Alta where all children and young people can feel safe and wanted. It requires more than headlines – it requires interaction, long -term efforts and a policy that sees the whole person.
