The second person with monkey measles detected in the country has not yet applied for an overview of the University Clinic for Infectious Diseases and Febrile Conditions in Skopje, Director Fadil Jana confirmed today to MIA.

He said there was no new case of monkey measles in the country.

The Commission for Infectious Diseases at the Ministry of Health, in connection with the confirmed two cases of monkey measles, at yesterday’s meeting made a recommendation for self -isolation and health surveillance for the two patients.

– The condition of the people who have been in close contact with the patients and if symptoms will be monitored, they will be tested for this disease at the Institute of Public Health. The Commission appeals to citizens to respect the hygiene measures for personal protection against infectious diseases, and in the event of a possible symptom of this disease, to call their family doctor. At the same time, information on the elaborate path for examination, testing and care of possible patients will be distributed to the GPs – the Ministry of Health said in a statement.


A small risk of an epidemic

According to epidemiologist Dragan Danilovski, this viral disease is not easily transmitted and the risk of an epidemic is low.

– Monkey measles are a viral disease caused by the MonkeyPox virus, which belongs to the same family as the Variola Vera virus. Symptoms usually include fever, headache, muscle and back pain, enlarged lymph glands, exhaustion, skin rash that can occur on the face, hands, feet, genital area or other parts of the body, incubation period of 6 to 13 days, but can vary from 21 to 21 days. The disease lasts from 2 to 4 weeks and in most cases recedes without the need for specific treatment. However, in people with weakened immunity, children and pregnant women, more serious complications can develop – Danilovski writes on his Facebook profile.
