For the first time, scientists have analyzed the history of animal cloning and concluded that it is a viable tool for conservation of nature.
Despite the widespread opinion, such animals can have offspring, and their life expectancy – meets the standards.
Review of research Posted In the Animals Scientific Journal, writes Iflscience.
The analysis conducted a non -profit environmental organization Revive & Restore. Scientists have explored cloned individuals of 56 species and subspecies.
It is a horse of Przhevalsky, for which the cloning was used 40-year-old frozen DNA, Chorno-ferret, bull Gaura, Makaki Rh, European Muuflon, Herbal Frog and others.
It is believed that this method of reproduction of the animal is infertile and have limited life expectancy. However, 95% of the cloned species analyzed were fertile. And 90% – corresponded to or exceeded life expectancy.
Scientists also say that the development of technology restrains the one -time effort. In addition, due to a limited number of thematic research, there is a misconception that cloning is difficult. This scares potential investors.
Scientists say that investments in cloning can provide unique opportunities for managing genetic diversity.
« The birth of the first cloned horse of Przewalski and Chorno -Thore in 2020 were incredible moments. We did not even suspect that further work within these programs would be a turning event for the history of environmental cloning as a whole.
This technology can benefit the species that no other tool is capable of. We have to go beyond a single effort « , – said the co -author of the study Robert Vision from the Museum of Natural Sciences of North Carolina.
We will remind, according to the International Union of Conservation are More than 45 thousand animals and plants – from reptiles to elephants.
