Ukrainian scientists described a new fossil species Insects The age is close 40 million Years and called it Nebesna Sotnia – in honor of Ukrainians who died during the Dignity Revolution.
The opening of « UP. Life » was informed by biologist Roman Godunko from the State Natural Science Museum of NAS of Ukraine, and the research was published in the journal Nature.
The insect was found in a piece of Baltic amber-the copy remained well enough to determine his family in the structure of the wings and body.
According to scientists, a new kind It belongs to a rare family of Ameletopsidae, whose modern representatives live only in South America, Australia and New Zealand.
”The new genus – close, oddly enough, to his relatives from Australia and New Zealand, but in Eocene (geological period of time when Baltic amber was formed from the resin of trees at that time), he was a resident Europe”– says the study participant Roman Godunko.
Scientists have noted that they gave the new species the name Nebesna Sotnia Gen. et sp. nov. In memory of Heavenly Hundredas well as all Ukrainians killed as a result of war.
« The name pays deep respect for the feat, courage and self -sacrifice of all Ukrainians affected by Russian military aggression »– the article says.
Roman Godunko added that the idea of such a name in the Ukrainian team of scientists has long been. Scientists wanted to make a mention of the heroes of the Revolution of Dignity in the scientific community.
« The phenomenon and the phenomenon of the Heavenly Hundred cannot be forgotten. So many Ukrainians were killed, but the Heavenly Hundred Heroes were the first Prometheus. They showed that Ukrainians will defend themselves, fight, rescue brothers even at the cost of their own lives.– says Roman.
Earlier, amber with a unique insect was in the collection of Lithuanian researcher Jonas Damzen in Vilnius, and is now stored in the collection of the State Museum of Natural History of the NAS of Ukraine in Kiev.
The staff of this institution, including Roman Godunko and Alexander Martynov, became co -authors of a new study.
« My colleague-singer from the National Museum of Natural Sciences of the NAS of Ukraine in Kiev deserves special attention. He is a native of Donetsk, but after the occupation he transferred from DNU, moved to Kiev with his family and began to work in the museum. He saved and exported to Kyiv Valuable Collections of Insect.– adds Roman.
Earlier, Ukrainian scientists have found a new species leeches in Antarctic.
