The press: They were at the head of the club for around two decades. What do you do differently than usual in science?
Barbara Streicher: The Science Center network has two pillars: On the one hand, it makes science placement and, on the other hand,-as the name suggests-in the networking and professionalization of science communication. These two fields play massively. What we learn in practice – we always try new, innovative formats – is also spread through partner institutions and vice versa: what we learn from others flows into our own practice. And with all of this, the focus is on hands-on brokerage, dialogue orientation and inclusion.
To make it concrete: With their activities, they were always on site- whether in the senior citizens’ home, in the park or in the supermarket.
Yes, we go where people are in their free time in their familiar surroundings. In the project « And in the middle of it, science » we simply listened: What do people combine with science? And where are the starting points for your own life? Because science is not distant, but something that can offer a lot of connections to everyday life – if you show them. From this, activities were designed in which you can try something and which a dialogue is created. So that people may notice: Hoppala, this contradicts my original idea of science.
