Schriftje van Broers leads to dead Spoor in research gang of Nivelles: « Disappointed that they have not even been interrogated again »
One of the two new traces to the Bende van Nivelles ends up. Lawyer Kristiaan Vandenbussche, who assists relatives of the robbery in Aalst, saw in the file how two brothers had kept a notebook in which they recorded number plates of passing cars.
That ninth November 1985, the day of the robbery at the Delhaize in Aalst, saw those brothers with great likelihood passing the Golf and the Mercedes that were used for the robbery. The boys described the occupants as unaccompanied types, perhaps it was indeed the gang members on the way to the robbery.

Several other witnesses spoke of a gray wave that served for the robberies, which makes the track very plausible. Yet those boys were never interrogated about it, Vandenbussche discovered.

And that is why the Court of Appeal in Bergen decided that at least that part of the investigation had to be transferred. « That has happened now, but has not led to a breakthrough, » says Vandenbussche. « I maintain that those guys may have seen the real gang of Nivelles, but the license plate on the Golf is false, according to the additional investigation. The number plate on the Mercedes had not not been properly noted, so the investigators could not continue to do that either. »

« We already discovered that the license plate of the Golf led to a drink trade in Brussels. But all co-owners of that time were already died. The company had a wave with such a number plate, but that was a white one. Perhaps the Gang stole the number plate of that white wave and copied and hung on their own, Gray Golf.
« And so that track is technically dead, as it is called. Such facts had to happen now, we could trace, follow them with cameras with cameras on the occupants to identify them, » said Vandenbussche. « But forty years ago that did not exist and we are therefore left with nothing. Now, I am not only disappointed in the result but also in the fact that the two brothers were not even questioned again, as the Court of Appeal had nevertheless asked. Well, we do not give up this investigation and dig further at the truth. We still have trump cards, » said the lawyer.

The second additional research leads to two northern French gangster brothers who would have been the core of the Gang of Nivelles. That additional investigation is still ongoing.
