School Stakes, so Sports Center Organizes Free Sports Day: “My own children are also coming” (Waregem)

Because many children cannot go to school due to the strike day, the Happy Waregem sports center is organizing a free sports day on Monday. And it was immediately fully booked. « My own children also come, » says the organizer.

Sports day from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with daycare from 7.30 a.m. to 6 p.m.: at Sportcentrum Happy Waregem they did their best to deliver parents and grandparents « the perfect solution ».
As soon as they heard of the willingness to strike at schools in the neighborhood, the idea for a free sports day matured. The registered children can fully enjoy football, tennis, padel, hockey, baseball, tick games and camp games.
« We launched it on Tuesday and on Thursday it was already fully booked, » says organizer Pieter Norga. « We wanted to offer an alternative to prevent the children from crawling a whole day before a screen. They can get to know all kinds of sports and move through in six different groups. »
“Positive contribution”
On a average Monday is the center of gravity for the sports center in the evening. There are camps during school holidays. « But during the school year there are of course no children to be found during the day, unless we organize a sports day for a school, » says Norga.
The day also solves a reception problem for Pieter Norga himself. « My two children come to work out, » he says. « It is our way of contributing in a positive way. We are not for or against the strike, but children should not be the victim of it. »
The registered children can experience the day completely for free. Only for the spaghetti do they pay if their parents order it.
