State Secretary Sepp Schellhorn (NEOS) applies as the state spokesman for the Salzburg Neos, as he confirmed to the « Kurier » (Monday). The goal is a “pink comeback” in the Salzburg state election 2028, says Schellhorn. « We have a lot to win and lose little. » It has not yet been decided whether he will also compete as a top candidate. In any case, he remains State Secretary for Deregulation.
The Salzburger Neos, which flew from the state parliament in 2023, have been looking for a new tour again since January. The new party leadership is to be elected on May 24th at a general meeting. Lukas Rupsch is currently being held interimized after Lisa Aldali had covered her function of the state spokeswoman in January after only one year in office. So far, Schellhorn had not wanted to commit whether he was available for the function.
Temporary withdrawal from politics
The Salzburg restaurateur already had the function as a state spokesman in 2016 to 2021. Under his leadership, the NEOs reached 7.27 percent of the vote when they started in the 2018 state election and also moved into the state government as part of the so-called « dirndl coalition » with ÖVP and Greens. Schellhorn handed over the party to Andrea Klambauer in 2021 before temporarily withdrawing from politics.
