Scandal in residential care centers is expanding to hospitals in Oudenaarde and Ronse: trainee has made « disturbing images » (Oudenaarde)

Police and courts have been working on thorough investigations into abuses in mainly East-Flemish care institutions for several weeks. Everything revolves around the videos that were discovered at the beginning of March in the Oudenaardse Woonzorgcentrum De Meerspoort. That exposed a very scandal, in which two brothers ND (18) and MD (21) made disgusting videos of residents and sent them to each other.

A 19-year-old friend and ZB (21), ND’s girlfriend, were also arrested. The latter because she too made a video in which she sold a MEP to a resident of another care institution, namely the branding in Kortrijk.

One of the four suspects also did an internship in the General Hospital in Oudenaarde in 2024. Speurders now have concrete indications that there are also victims of degrading treatments. Hans Crampe, director of the hospital, confirms this. « Research shows that images disturbing have also been made in our hospital, » he says.

Just like with the other care institutions involved, screenshots of the videos ensure a breakthrough in the hospital. The interior of the Oudenaardse Hospital was recognized on the images. « The patients involved and their families were informed by the police, » says the director. But how many victims there would be exactly can not yet be made with certainty. The director himself will only be questioned next week about possible abuses in the hospital.

The hospital was also recognized in Ronse by the interior. « We have been informed by the police that a trainee in the hospital of Ronse has made a video, » says director Stefaan Blomme. « The trainee was here in the context of his education for school and worked for ten days in February 2025 in the Geriatrics department. Which of the suspects are involved, who did an internship in AZ Oudenaarde, are also unknown. The images were sent to each other among the various suspects via WhatsApp. « It is obvious that we strictly reject any form of cross -border behavior. We therefore work together with the competent authorities in all transparency and have already set us a civil party, » says the hospital director.

In the meantime, six different healthcare institutions have already been discovered where there were miserable films from certain residents. The discovered images show, among other things, how residents get a blow, or are pushed into their excrement with their hands. There is also the blow-out of vape-smoke in the faces of residents and other downright bullying behavior. The scandal has certainly been going on for a year and a half and now cost Geert Leliaert’s job, the director of the Oudenaardse Woonzorgcentrum De Meerspoort who received his resignation last week.
