Saving is expensive for Swiss television
Employees receive annual wages as severance pay – saving is really expensive for Swiss television
SRF releases employees – for example at the magazine “Faces & Stories”. Contractual provisions and the social plan now lead to high costs, also due to mistakes in management.
Swiss television wants to save two million francs with the cessation of the social magazine « Faces & Stories ». Now it turns out: to delete the show is expensive for SRF.
On the one hand, this has to do with a comparatively generous overall employment contract, which is supplemented by an even more generous social plan. Secondly, the defective planning of the SRF editor-in-chief goes into money.
Of the 22 employees of the format, 15 leave Swiss television. “G&G” has been broadcast for 20 years, and the working atmosphere at the editorial team is considered very good. That is why many employees have been there for a long time.
Workload is shortened, wages remain the same
Now it says in the overall employment contract that the SRG has concluded with the Swiss syndicate of media professionals: Anyone who is at least 40 years old and identifies ten uninterrupted years of service receives a loss of six monthly wages. A monthly wage is added for every further year of service – a maximum of twelve monthly wages are paid out.
Some employees of “Faces & Stories” meet the criteria: they receive an annual wage to say goodbye. Plus a so-called outplacement advice. A labor market expert analyzes how the dismissed person finds a suitable position again.
Similar regulations are available in private companies for the top squad. On Swiss television, ordinary editors are entitled to twelve monthly wages after dismissal.
It can become even more expensive for Swiss television if the people concerned do not find a new job. While a maximum of one year, SRF pays the difference between the day -to -unemployment insurance and the wages that the employees had received on Leutschenbach.
Follow -up costs through reduced work penses
Not all employees of “G&G” have to leave the company – some should continue to produce social contributions for other programs. The next problem already arises: SRF has cut the work penses. In the SRG’s social plan there is a provision that means additional payments for the company for a long time.
The regulation provides for: SRF employees who are prescribed for a reduction in the workload will receive the original wages for a period of two years. Only then will the payments be adapted to the effective commitment.
The determination is even more drastic if Swiss television shortens work penses twice within a year. Then the compensation claims of those affected are accumulating. In individual cases, this happened at “G&G”.
If SRF director Nathalie Wappler turns to the staff, it usually does not promise anything good.
SRF director Nathalie Wappler initially prescribed a long summer break to the format. As a result, work pens were reduced. A few months later, Wappler decided to hire the show. Pensen were shortened again. Now Swiss television has to wait a long time because of this bumpy planning until the savings measure leads to savings.
TV presenters have to go to the radio
The departure compensation and continued payment of wages add up to an amount of the size of one million francs solely at «G&G». Swiss television has created many new jobs in the past 20 years and will have to cancel part of it in the coming. This is associated with high costs-because special protection applies to the SRG employees in the event of a job cuts. A journalist of Swiss television describes the provisions in the overall employment contract and in the social plan as « terrific. » Another says: Golden parachutes are not reserved for the bosses on the Leutschenbach.
Swiss television does not want to comment on the details of the social plan for reasons of personal protection. Personnel measures always cause unique social plan costs, writes SRF. « Savings are sustainable and relieve the budget of SRF annually. »
The Syndika Medienschaffer also does not comment on the specific contractual regulations. Central secretary Silvia Dell’aquila says: « The social plan with the SRG is good, yes, but it is not outside the frame. »
The program “Faces & Stories” will be broadcast for the last time at the end of June. The SRF managers are cool to the affected four moderators: two of them can continue to work with a small workload on the radio. However, nothing is known about further employment the flagship of «G&G», Jennifer Bosshard.
SRF seems to act according to the motto: the talents that have been trained in their own house are drawn. Instead of the career planning in the company, there is a nice chunk on the way.
