Almost 90 percent of CD&V members re-chosen Sammy Mahdi on Friday as party chairman. Bram van Hecke (former Boerenbond) becomes youth chairman.
It was not a really exciting battle and the result is obvious. Sammy Mahdi has been re-elected chairman by the CD&V members with 88.77 percent. In this election he was challenged by Maarten Forceville, ships in Herent and newcomer at the national level. He won 11 percent of the votes.
Sammy Mahdi has been party chairman since 2022 and now extends his mandate until June 2028 – a year before the next elections. He responds satisfied. « I am pleased to know that our members give me the confidence to continue on the gone, » he says in a press release. « In the coming years I will make my mission to put Christian democracy on the map more than ever. CD&V is the family party of Flanders and everyone will have known that in the following years. »
Maarten Forceville is also positive: « I wanted to weigh on the debate, and that succeeded. Sammy has already taken over positions that I explicitly brought in during the campaign, including the revaluation of our local mandataries. »
In addition to a party chairman, the young CD&V members have also chosen a youth chair. That will be Bram van Hecke in the coming years. He was previously chairman of the Young Circle, the youth department of the Boerenbond. In last year’s elections he was on the European list of CD&V. (PL)
