Unlike many appearance rooms that we are used to, where lighting is often cold, here the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the corners deliberately rounded as in a gigantic cradle that embraces those who enter and invite him to take care of himself. « The light seems to emit directly from the installation, the work is precisely to make it inseparable from the scene, » explains the light designer Pasquale Mari.

Visitors, two at a time, after taking a small lift, are welcomed by some nurses (actors of the small theater) who accompany them to sit on Littini-Chaise Longue with an enveloping shape who move along a track towards the door of another small room, where they are delivered to them a postcard. In the center, a sort of kaleidoscope hides a heart, whose beat is amplified and accompanied by a sound background of Max Casacci dei Subsonica. «It is an invitation to relax in a suspended space, without the anxiety and fear that you generally have when you wait for a medical report. We are inside a cardiology, as the writing is indicated at the bottom of the room, but it is a sweet environment, there is no restlessness. This was a relief for me because I spent three years inside the hospitals, for My husband who died last year (the designer Italo Rota, editor’s note)», The scenographer tells Margherita Palli who gave shape to the thoughts of the Oscar -winning director. « Here the wait is sweet, it’s a bit like being within a maternal uterus, it’s like a dream. »

Difficult to find a direct link between this room and the scenography of the films of Sorrentino. « He gave very precise indications both on the colors of the walls and the armchairs, he did not mention films in particular, neither his nor of others, » continues Palli. We ask them if there is any particular title that he had in mind while working on the project. «One of the first Sorrentino films I saw is The consequences of lovetakes place in Chiasso between places that I know very well being Ticinese, as I also know the Swiss banks well, very different from the Italian ones. Here, I happened to think several times about that movie. The project is not inspired by the film, but it often returned to me the image that the director gives of those places. It is a dramatic film but there is a certain tranquility when the protagonist goes to the bank ». That same suspended and rarefied atmosphere, in which everything seems perfect, which we find in the installation.
