Sales of protecting products from fleas and ticks grew by 27%
An abnormally warm winter in 2025 led to the fact that owners of pets began to be bought earlier than usual veterinary preparations for fleas and ticks. In January alone, sales of such funds in kind of expression increased by 27%, in monetary – by 73%, and average prices – by 37%. According to the market participants, there are no deficiency of veterinary medicines on the Russian market, but the surge of demand could not remain out of sight of scammers.
Sales of protecting products from fleas and ticks in all channels in January 2025 throughout Russia increased by 27% of the year, up to 1.5 million minimum doses (tablets, capsules, ampoules and other dosage forms), in monetary – by 73%, up to 715.3 million rubles. This follows from RNC Pharma. According to the analytical service “Contour.market”, only on the purchase of such products on Wildberries and Ozon in January consumers spent 25.9 million rubles, in general, for the first three months of 2025 – 111.5 million rubles. Of the total amount, half fell on the first two decades of March.
On Wildberries in the first half of March, sales of protective equipment for pets in natural terms increased by 82% year by the year, a representative of the marketplace said “Kommersant”. In the offline rod, there is also a serious jump in demand for veterinary preparations for ticks and fleas. From February to mid -March, 2025, the sales of such funds increased by one and a half times a year by the year and a half by the year and a half by the year, the managing director of the network Fedor Zyuzikov from February 2025. “The high season of sales of veterinary drugs against ticks and fleas began in January, which is unusual for our country,” explains Fedor Zyuzikov.
The reason for this – an abnormally warm winter this year, is added by Nikolai Bespalov, Development Director of RNC Pharma. In addition, from year to year the number of pets is increasing: only in 2020–2023, cats in Russia became more by 25%, up to 49.2 million, dogs – by 7%, up to 25.5 million, calculated in the center of study and well -being of animals. High demand for veterinary preparations for fleas and ticks expectedly led to an increase of average prices by 37% of the year in January 2025, up to 474 rubles. For one minimum unit, it follows from RNC Pharma. For the first month of this year, 25% of all sales of such funds in monetary terms was on Simparika from American Zoetis (the average cost of the drug amounted to 1.17 thousand rubles per dose), 19% – for Braceto from the French Intervet Production SA (3.3 thousand rubles for the minimum unit), 13% – for the drug « Inspector » from the Russian « EcoProm » (480 rubles).
Against the background of seasonal activity, a surge of fraudulent schemes with the sale of the most popular foreign drugs – the same “Simpariki” and “Bratseto” is recorded.
Fraudsters via Telegram offer the delivery of the necessary drugs from abroad, and after the prepayment made do not get in touch, the Jet CSIRT information security company explains. Such schemes began to be distributed back in 2022, when most of the foreign drugs left the Russian market, they explain in the network of pet stores and veterinary pharmacies “Markvet”.
However, according to the President of the National Association of Zoindustry, Kirill Dmitriev, there are no total deficiency of protective equipment for animals, a large number of Russian and foreign registered drugs are represented on the market. According to Nikolai Bespalov, according to the results of 2024, veterinary drugs account for 65.9% in kind and 38% in monetary.
