Sales of bicycles and scooters have grown sharply in Russia
The Russians, without waiting for the onset of spring, began to buy bicycles, scooters and roller skates. From the beginning of February alone, the volumes of their sale in retail increased from 39% to 56% year to the year. Demand for them increased, including due to promotions. Sports retailers, who, due to the warmth of December and January, fell sales of winter equipment, are forced to offer buyers to offer discounts on a wide range of assortment, including the one that is popular in the warm season.
For January 1 – February 20, 2025, the number of purchases in the retail of bicycles increased by 56% by the year, mechanical scooters – by 43%, roller skates – by 39% year by the year, calculated the analytical service “Index” (part of the “OFD platform” – the fiscal data platform). The high demand for such products expectedly led to an increase in prices. So, for example, according to the “Chek Index” service, in the first decade of February the average price of bicycles was 19.5 thousand rubles, which is 14% more than a year by the year, mechanical scooters – 5.65 thousand rubles. (growth of 13%). The rollers rose in price over this period by 12%, to 5.39 thousand rubles.
In the network of sports goods “Kant”, according to its general director Maxim Vinogradov, from February 1 to 25, bicycles sales grew by 113%, scooters three times.
According to him, scooters, roller skates and bicycles are inexpensive and mass sports equipment designed for a wide audience, since it does not require much time to study.
The “Index check” notes that the sales of bicycles, scooters and rollers was influenced by abnormally warm weather and lack of snow in the central part of Russia. For this reason, sports retailers fell on the sale of winter sports equipment, and this forced them to set discounts on all types of goods, including those that are in consumer demand in spring and summer, the co -founder of the Myfitnes.rf service Vladimir Voloshin. At the same time, the representative of the Sport-Marfon store claims that the company does not observe a strong decline in sales for winter goods in February.
At the same time, as the calculations of the “Index check” show, from the beginning of this month the number of ski purchases has decreased by 66%, skates – by 43%.
Now winter sports equipment is mostly acquired only by professional buyers.
Including for this reason in the central part of Russia, the demand for skiing and snowboards has increased by 10-15%, says Maxim Vinogradov.
Winter sports equipment is now buying those who decided to do this for the future against the backdrop of decreasing prices, according to the “Index Count”. So, in February 2025, according to analysts, the average cost of skis amounted to 4.8 thousand rubles, which is 4%lower than the year, the skates fell by 5%, up to 6.4 thousand rubles, sledges-by 10%, up to 2 thousand rubles, and tubing tubing-for the same 10%, up to 1.8 thousand rubles.
The demand for the spring-summer sports center was also noticed by marketplaces.
From the beginning of January to February 20, two -wheeled bicycles bought 55%more than a year for a year, three -wheeled – by 76%, 56%, scooters by 60%bought from the beginning of January to February 20. Sales of bicycle helmets increased by 99% in kind.
The total growth in Internet sales of sports goods in 2024 amounted to 30%, up to 259 billion rubles, said the President of the Association of Internet trade companies Artem Sokolov. According to him, this category is in 11th place among all online buying.
