Sale of old headquarters for 11 million leads to searches at the Portuguese Football Federation

The Judicial Police cable a police operation to comply with 20 search and seizure warrants in households, banking institution, establishments and law firm, in the districts of Lisbon, Setúbal and Santarém.

The operation is due to “a set of situations that can be integrated illicit conduct related to the intermediation of the sale of the former headquarters belonging to the Portuguese Football Federation, at 58 Alexandre Herculano Street in Lisbon. The property was sold for eleven million two hundred thousand euros”, informs the PJ, in a statement, released Tuesday.

At issue are suspected of undue receipt crimes of advantage, corruption, economic participation in business and qualified tax fraud.

The steps were carried out by 65 inspectors and 15 PJ scientific police specialists, with the participation of five criminal instruction judges, six prosecutors and four representatives of the Bar.

« The investigation will proceed with the proof analysis now collected and the competent examinations and expertise, aiming at the thickness of truth and its quick conclusion, » reads in the same statement.

It should be noted that the sale of the property occurred during Fernando Gomes’ warrant as president of the Portuguese Football Federation, who, after being replaced by Pedro Proença, will take office on Tuesday as president of the Portugal Olympic Committee.
