The English who woke up this morning to carry out the flag of Saint George were amazed to realize that they were wrong.

Saint George’s Day is usually celebrated on April 23 each year. According to legend, Saint George killed a dragon and is revered as a holy patron in England. Saint George’s Day, also called the feast of Saint George, is a holiday for Christian countries and churches around the world.

King Eduard III made Saint George the Holy Patron of England when he formed the Order of Jartia in the name of St. George in 1350. Despite the fact that he was not from the country, Saint George was considered someone who embodied the characteristics that the kingdom wanted to project in the outside world.

However, this year is a little different and anyone who celebrates today will do it with five days too early, because the Church of England has postponed this year’s holiday for Monday, April 28.

According to the rules of the Church, any day of the saint who falls within the Holy Week or Easter Week is moved in the second week after Easter, usually on the first Monday.

This means that Saint George’s Day was « transferred » today, Wednesday, April 23, until next Monday, April 28.

Yesterday night, Downing Street organized a reception to mark the day of the Holy Patron of England.

A note issued by the Church of England states: « When St. George’s Day or Saint Mark falls between the Sunday of Flowers and the second Sunday of Easter inclusive, it is transferred on Monday after the second Sunday of Easter. If both fall during this period, Saint George’s Day is transferred to Monday. »
