S receive the highest voter support in one year

Last time, much of the domestic political debate has been about things that happened outside Sweden's borders. Not least the various plays from US President Donald Trump about both Ukraine and the EU and Gaza have overshadowed what has happened here at home.

Despite, or perhaps because of, a troubled world, the movements are small in the Swedish electorate. In DN/Ipso's latest voter barometer, all changes in the margin of error are compared to the February survey.

But seen A little longer is a positive trend for the Social Democrats. S receives 35 percent voter support in the March measurement, which is the highest listing in one year.

– S has had a fairly long period where support has been lost, but in recent months the party has slowly approached these 35 percent, says Nicklas Källebring, opinion analyst at Ipsos.

He emphasizes that there is no clear explanation for S's rise, but believes that it may be because the government has had a pretty tough start to the year with extensive blasts, the criticism of former security counselor Henrik Landerholm and Trump's different whims.

At the same time it usually is so that the incumbent government receives stronger support in times of concern. But in the March measurement, the Moderates are still and receive 20 percent voter support.

However, Nicklas Källebring believes that the current situation cannot really be compared with, for example, pandemic or when Sweden applied for NATO membership after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Then S got a clear lift in public opinion.

– Then the prime minister had a very clear leadership role. Now Ulf Kristersson goes to many international meetings, but it is not he who leads international cooperation. He is a participant among others and it does not provide the same opportunity to show a clear leadership, says Källebring.

The voter barometer also shows that The opinion situation remains strained for four of the eight parliamentary parties. The center, who is facing a new party leader, balances on the parliamentary block with four percent. Both the Liberals and the Christian Democrats fall under the barrier by three percent each and the Environment Party has, after a time of upward trend, slipped back to five percent.

Nicklas Källebring emphasizes that all small parties have good opportunities to stay in Parliament after all. The opinion situation has looked similar between previous elections, but in the end the small parties have saved themselves, including through support votes.

– But sooner or later comes a choice where one of the smaller parties fails to get the support votes required to cross the barrier.

The difference between the blocks lies Quietly compared to the latest survey and opposition parties, still has a clear takeover over the timetables. The gap is now 6 percentage points.

DN/Ipsos has also asked voters if they think it is time for a change of government at the next election. A clear majority – 51 percent – believes that the current government should be replaced. 32 percent consider that the timing should gain renewed confidence.

– There is a stable opinion for a change of government. The current government has consistently had a fairly poor opinion support during this term of office, says Nicklas Källebring.
