Rute: Alliance agrees that Russia is a long -term threat to NATO territory
NATO Secretary -General Mark Rutte said yesterday, after talks with US President Donald Trump and senior members of the US administration in Washington that Russia remains a long -term threat to the Alliance, DPA reports.
« We all agree in the Alliance that Russia is a long -term threat to NATO territory -for the entire Euro -Atlantic territory, » Rute said after a White House meeting.
Asked about the possibility of a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, Rute said now « something is on the table », adding that the ball is apparently on Russia’s field.
Rutte, DPA reports, expressed confidence that the United States would continue to play a central role in efforts to end the war.
-I don’t see a situation where the United States goes a step further. I see a situation where under President Trump’s leadership, this could lead to a positive end, and that is very important – Rutte said.
Trump said two days ago that it was possible to reach an agreement with Russia, claiming that tackling Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski was « harder » than Russian President Vladimir Putin, the German agency recalls.
The US president has called for Kiev to give up the Crimea Peninsula occupied by Russia, and to abandon his candidacy for future NATO membership.
NATO leaders are due to gather on June 24 and 25 at the Hague Summit.
