Russians, ready to give Serbia Civil Nuclear Technology
The Russian Rosatom Nuclear Energy Corporation is prepared to provide Serbia with various nuclear technologies, including small nuclear power plants and high -capacity units, said Marija Deuric, the head of the representation of Serbia, quoted by Seenews.
« Rosatom is prepared to provide Serbian partners with a complete range of solutions: from low-power nuclear power plants to rhythm-200 reactors to high power units. Our technologies have already demonstrated their reliability and efficiency in both Russia and in strangers, » said Deuric, in a Post on Telegram.
Deuric also said that Rosatom welcomes Serbia’s interest in improving his energy system and diversifying his energy mix by introducing nuclear energy. « We are confident that the development of nuclear power plants will create conditions for the long-term socio-economic prosperity of the country, strengthening its energy independence, » said Deuric.
In November, the Parliament of Serbia canceled the prohibition on the construction of nuclear power plants that had been in force under a law adopted in the former Yugoslavia in 1989. Two months earlier, the Ministry of Energy awarded a contract for a preliminary technical study on the potential use of nuclear energy in the Serbia of the French Energy Company of the Electrical Electrical Egis Industries. The Minister of Energy, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, said earlier this week that the study will be completed by the end of June.
In 2019, Rosatom and Serbia signed a cooperation agreement for the execution of common nuclear energy projects. The agreement provides for assistance in creating and improving nuclear energy infrastructure in Serbia, designing, construction and modernization of nuclear research reactors, developing nuclear medicine, as well as implementing fundamental and applied research.
The general manager of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, who participated in the Moscow 9th meeting between Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic, and Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that Vucic’s visit « marks the beginning of a new stage of work with Serbia regarding the possible location of some nuclear power plants in Serbia » Interfax.
« Starting today, nuclear energy has been actually included on the official agenda of Russian-Serbian relations, » Likhachev said after the meeting, quoted by Interfax.
