Russians began to be less afraid of loneliness

More than two thirds of the respondents are not afraid of loneliness, he considered VTsiom. Only 5% admitted that they were afraid to be left without help and support. The population today generally calmly perceives social isolation due to the development of Internet communication, social networks and food delivery services. Against the background of this, experts talk about cases when citizens are emotionally attached to artificial intelligence, which can be integrated into home devices.

The All -Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) on Thursday presented the results of a study on the problem of loneliness. 1.6 thousand citizens over 18 years old took part in the All -Russian telephone survey.

Not afraid of loneliness of 68% of respondents; 15 years ago 54%answered so. Those who still experience the fear of social isolation are afraid of possible health problems, a lack of communication or the lack of the opportunity to start a family. The most vulnerable generation is the Zumers (born in 2001 and later), he considered VTsIOM: they are 1.6 times more likely to other Russians are fear of loneliness.

The population began to perceive single people differently, sociologists established. In 2010, 48% of respondents believed that a “lonely person” is one who does not have a family, relatives or relatives. Now 22% of respondents think so. 16% choose the answer « without friends/close/like -minded people. » 10% are sure that one who has no one who has no one to turn to help or support.

The share of those who believe that the second half to find “simple” has increased from 18 to 25%over 15 years. Moreover, married (married) respondents are confident in this twice as often idle (unmarried).

A practicing psychologist, scientific consultant “Psycodemia”, a member of the Association oriented to the decision of the practitioners Elena Lavrova indicates that modern people need something else less often: “If earlier expulsion from the tribe meant a certain death, now you can live without leaving the house,” she explains. “You can work online, use delivery of doctors and other specialists. In such conditions, communication and proximity are not a necessity, but by pleasure. However, building connections requires effort, and not everyone is ready for this. ”

Loneliness has ceased to be something frightening for part of the generation of people under 35 years old, adds a doctor of medical sciences, a psychiatric psychiatric clinic « Promed » Gennady Gurevich. He draws attention to the fact that in the late 1990s the heyday of computer clubs and video games began, and even then the youth left the streets, where live communication had occurred before. “The development of the Internet and social networks aggravated the situation,” the expert explains. “People began to communicate in chats, thematic forums and online games, which created the illusion of social activity. The availability of delivery services, remote work and other technologies has led to the fact that people are less and less with home. ”

Elena Lavrova says that modern culture promotes the image of an independent and self -sufficient person who relies on “personal development and professional implementation”, is aware of its boundaries and is not ready to compromise under the pressure of society. As a result, people are increasingly building emotional ties with artificial intelligence, perceiving it as a friend or even a psychologist, she adds (we are talking about a software built into various home gadgets, “smart” columns, etc.).

Gennady Gurevich warns: loneliness and isolation have serious consequences for mental health. People who are weaned from living communication more often suffer from sociophobia, anxiety disorders and panic attacks, the expert points out. In the long run, according to Mr. Gurevich, this can lead to severe depression and apathy. “People who do not know how to interact, form an unhealthy society,” the expert summarizes. “This can lead to an increase in aggression, mental disorders, as well as a decrease in birth rate and even extinction.”
