Russian spy dimples sent from the North Sea
There are more and more reports about Russian drones that are sent from ships in the surrounding seas. That writes Time.
The Belgian security forces and their European partners are increasingly reporting that Russian drones are sent from ships in the North Sea to explore military infrastructure and sites off our coasts.
Time and VRT NWS investigated the sailing behavior of two ships with Russian crew that drones would have sent out in May. One of the ships is a steel freightship from the Norwegian shipping company HAV that showed suspicious behavior last month near the German coast. The ship had previously been in Kaliningrad, Russia, for a month.
The two ships followed would have been inspected, one even in our country, but no drones were found. According to experts, this does not mean that nothing has happened. A cargo ship is very large and drones small, and cheap specimens can easily be dropped in the sea after use.
The spokesperson for the Federal Public Service Mobility, Thomas De Spiegelaere, confirms Time That more and more drones are being used. « Also above the sea, for exploration. And that is also done by commercial ships. » Defense does not provide any details about the two ships in question, but reports that « the threat of espionage with the help of drones is real and is closely monitored ».
