Russian Navy has stolen the buoy / day of the wave measuring of the University of Estonia
« The buoy was about 50 kilometers from the Hiiuma Island. It was in the exclusive economic zone of Estonia. They are not directly territorial waters, but Estonia has the right to do various activities there, » said Rivo Uiboupin, head of the Maritime Systems Institute.
Analysis of the Institute shows that at the end of April the buoy movement no longer corresponds to natural conditions. As a result, the Institute asked for the help of the Estonian Naval Surarations Center and called the Latvian Navy ship because there were no Estonian forces vessels nearby.
« The Latvian Navy did not find the buoys. However, with their help, it was possible to link the movement of Boja with the Russian Naval ship movement in the area, » ERR told the Estonian Naval Commander’s flotilla Admiral Ivo Verk. According to the Estonian Navy, the Russian Navy, possibly a buoy with a diameter of 50 centimeters, was considered a threat to navigation.
Vilnius Boy is a device designed by the Tallinn University of Technology at the Maritime Systems Institute for wave characteristics. Similar equipment is used elsewhere in the world.
