Russia wants in the eventual stop of fire not to import Western weapons to Ukraine

Russia will require stopping arms supplies from the United States and Europe to Ukraine during a possible ceasefire, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with ABC News.

His comments say nothing about whether Russia will do something similar and emphasize the lack of any change in Russia’s position on the termination of fire since mid -March, Reuters commented.

Why Putin plays a « truce »

« Otherwise, this will be an advantage for Ukraine. Ukraine will continue its full mobilization, bringing new troops to the front line, » Peskov said. « Ukraine will use this period to train new military and give a break to existing ones. So why give them such an advantage? »

US President Donald Trump has called on Russia and Ukraine to « end this stupid war on Friday, » insisting on a 30-day end of fire, which Ukraine says is ready to agree. But Peskov repeated in the interview the Russian concerns that Putin had publicly expressed on March 13 and was on a telephone conversation with Trump on March 18th.

« The termination of the fire was supported by President Putin, but he asked a few questions. He said that we have a certain dynamics on the front at the moment, Russian troops are progressing and progressing in a rather confident way, » he said. « So, if we are talking about the cessation of fire, what will we do with arms supplies coming from the US and European countries daily? »

Trump, who had previously put intense pressure on Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, shows a growing impatience to Russia and questioned whether Putin « unraveled him ». Peskov denied that it was so, and said that Ukraine was the one who refused to start direct negotiations.

Russia reminded the « nuances » for which it rejects a truce with Ukraine

« President Putin is doing everything he can to solve the problem, to reach settlement through peaceful and diplomatic means. But since we do not have peaceful and diplomatic means, we must continue the military operation, » he justified.

Russia hoped that Trump’s mediation would help to bring « a little more flexibility, a little more political will and wisdom in the Kiev regime, » Peskov said.

Putin has announced a short unilateral Easter termination of fire last month, which the two sides accused each other for breaking his violations countless times, and another three-day break this week as Russia celebrates the 80th anniversary of World War II victory. Ukraine disagreed with the last truce, stating that he wanted a break of 30 or more days and stated that again the Russian army had not actually stopped its actions.
