Russia tattoo? Christopher Martins brings his mother into play with a strange question

Christopher Martins rarely gives interviews. On the occasion of his 100th game for Spartak Moscow, a conversation with the Luxembourg national football player appeared on the club’s homepage, in which he answered an unusual question. When the 28-year-old told about his tattoos, he was asked: « Have you never thought about devoting something to Russia or Spartak? »

Martins, who had moved to Moscow at the beginning of 2022 shortly before the Russian attack on Ukraine, diplomatically replied: « It depends on whether I can get more tattoos stabbing. Because my mother is very unhappy every time she sees one. »

In the interview, Martin’s other personal insights. When asked about his positive charisma, he says: « I think this is up to education. If your family is healthy and you have something to eat, it is enough to enjoy life. You don’t need more. With this attitude I grew up. And when I see that someone is in a bad mood, I try to put it with positive energy. Good mood is easier. But I don’t want to enjoy life. »

Martins also tells of his everyday life in Moscow. « I don’t go out of the house often. If, then to go to the restaurant. I don’t know many places. When the weather is nice, I sometimes walk across the red or through a park. But I make progress with the Russian language. I try to open up new words every day. I can already form pretty correct sentences. If someone doesn’t speak too quickly, I understand it well. »

Despite the complicated entry conditions, he apparently gets a visit regularly. « Most of the time my brother comes. Some friends were already here. I usually invite guests towards the end of the season when the weather is better. »

His contract for the current third in the table of the Russian league runs until the end of June 2026. From a personal perspective, it is probably the best season for Martins in the Spartak jersey. There are six goals in the trophy for three goals and five templates in the league. Finally, he was elected player of the month. « I want to stay here as long as possible and win a lot of trophies, » he says. In 2022 he won the Russian trophy with Spartak.

The midfielder also pursues ambitious goals with the national team: « Of course we dream of qualifying for a big tournament. We have to become more constant. We can beat strong teams, like recently Sweden in the test game. But sometimes we lose against opponents that we should beat. » About national coach Luc Holtz he says: « He already trusted me when I was still very young. »

Martins already played 75 caps. At the latest at the 100th it would be time to think about a Luxembourg tattoo. Provided that the mother allows it.
