Russia has put forward unacceptable demands / day in Istanbul negotiations
According to sources, Russia’s conditions are unrealistic and far beyond all previous requirements.
The Russian delegation demanded that Ukraine take its troops from a large part of its territory to reach a ceasefire, the source said.
The source added that Russian claims included other unacceptable conditions.
The talks in Istanbul lasted almost two hours and the parties contacted the interpreter, the source said in the Ukrainian delegation.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, said after the talks that the exchange of prisoners and cessation of fire had been discussed, as well as the potential contacts of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensk and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
« The question of exchange, the issue of ceasefire. These two issues were discussed, » he said in a conversation with journalists in Istanbul.
Asked by journalists whether Putin and Zelenska contacts were discussed, Umerov replied: « We were discussed. We are working on this issue. »
He confirmed that Russia and Ukraine will be conducting a captivity in the format « 1000 against 100 » in the near future.
Vladimir Medinsky, the head of the Russian delegation, said the Russian delegation was generally satisfied with the result and ready to continue contacts.
He added that Russia had taken note of the Ukrainian delegation’s request for a meeting of the presidents of both countries.
Medinsky also said that both parties should prepare their own vision of ceasefire, and then these proposals could be discussed.
Before the talks, Umerov announced that Ukraine was ready to reach a complete and unconditional ceasefire and direct talks with Russia at the highest level.
He posted a relevant statement on Facebook, following a tripartite meeting of Ukraine, Turkey and the United States on Friday at noon.
« Today we came to Istanbul to find real ways to achieve lasting and fair peace. Peace is only possible if Russia shows readiness for a particular action, including a complete ceasefire for at least 30 days and humane measures such as forced Ukrainian children returning and comprehensive exchange with all warfare. »
Medinsky met with the US representative, Michael Anton, US Policy Planning Director, before the start of Russia and Ukraine.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on Sunday suggested that Russian and Ukrainian talks be launched in Istanbul on Thursday, and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky responded to the proposal, expressing his readiness to go to Istanbul himself and meet with Putin.
The Russian side in the coming days was silent about his representation in the negotiations, and it was only on Wednesday night that the delegation would be led by Putin’s assistant Vladimir Medinsky, a former Minister of Culture and the current chairman of the Russian Writers’ Union.
Zelensky has called the Russian delegation as props.
