Rupe nature but lacks awareness / day
European Commission Environment and Climate Program LIFE Integrated Project Natura 2000 optimization of protected areas management and management Latvianature Improves the nature protection system in Latvia to ensure long -term preservation of protected species and habitats. During the project, innovative and suitable approaches are developed in dealing with topical nature protection issues and implemented Natura 2000 Priority Actions of Territories. The study was carried out by the project Latvianature Partner – Vidzeme University College, finding out that 95.5% of Latvian residents care about nature. In addition, two -thirds of respondents are very important. People are most concerned about deforestation, loss of biodiversity, climate change and weather, building in nature areas and also the irresponsible behavior of peers. Interesting is one of the conclusions of the study – the public’s attitudes in nature are often formed by green meals and social networking infls, which are not natural experts, but affect their peers with emotional messages.
Respondents of the study have not been particularly critical of themselves. 60.5% of respondents appreciated their knowledge as very good or good. In nature, animal and plant species also value their knowledge as good, but Anda Mežgaile, director of Vidzeme University College Tourism and Recreation Studies, concluded that since the previous survey in 2021, the proportion of good knowledge in all matters has slightly decreased, but mediocre and bad.
In the evaluation of the people surveyed, Latvia’s nature has not worsened in four years. 36.4% of respondents’ rating remained unchanged – as about four years ago, 31.4%, it is believed to have improved. For a third, the situation in nature seems to have become worse.
Less than two -thirds of the respondents are ready to take part in collective events, such as help. Support for them increased by 18%over four years. However, only one in five or 21.3%would be considered in environmental organizations. The study also reveals that 18.5% of respondents do not know how to participate in the preservation of nature values.
The survey also found that people are not short of initiatives to work in the good and micro -level of nature – even more than 80% of respondents were ready to take care of nature, but often people have no idea whether their actions are right. People often do not know where to look for safe information and believe that there is also a lack of quality, natural experts.
The information found in the DAP survey will be used by nature protection policy, nature management and nature education.
