Rubio: Iran will not be the only country without weapons …

Iran, under any agreement with the US, will have to stop enriching Uranium and could import what is needed for a civil nuclear program, US Secretary of State said on Wednesday Marco Rubio On the eve of the conversation of Teheran and Washington on Saturday. Iran, however, made it known that their right to enrich Uranus could not be the subject of negotiations.

« Zero enrichment (Uranium) is unacceptable, » said a senior Iranian official close to the Iranian negotiating team.

The US wants to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear bomb, and President Donald Trump « maximum pressure » with sanctions and threatened to use military force if Iran does not stop his nuclear program.

« There is a path to a civilian, peaceful nuclear program if they want it. But if they persist to enrich Uranium, then it will be the only country in the world that does not have a ‘weapon program’ (…) but enriches it. I think it’s problematic, » Rubio said in one podcast.

American envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff said last week that Iran should not be enriched above 3.67 percent, the remark that has called into question whether the US still wants Tehran to dissolve its enrichment program, and a day later to say that Iran must stop and eliminate nuclear enrichment. «

Rubio explained that Witkoff spoke of « the level of enriched material that would be introduced from abroad, as numerous countries around the world do for peaceful, civil nuclear programs. »

« If Iran wants a civil nuclear program, they can have it as they have other countries, which means they can import enriched material, » Rubio said.

The UN Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) warned that Iran « dramatically » accelerates the enrichment of Uranium up to 60 percent of purity, close to 90 percent purity for weapons production.

The West points out that there is no need to enrich uranium to such high levels of purity for civilian purposes.
