Rospotrebnadzor announced a decrease in poisoning with alcohol and smoking mixtures
Russians are less and less poisoned by alcohol. This is stated in the annual report of Rospotrebnadzor. Over the nine years, the number of acute poisoning has decreased by 40%, and the deaths caused by them became less by 35%. The doctors interviewed “Kommersant” claim that young people drink less than the older generation, but warn that adolescents can still “try everything”.
“Kommersant” continues to study the fresh report of Rospotrebnadzor “On the state of the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population in 2024”. Among other things, the department reported that from 2015 to 2024, 408 thousand “acute poisoning of alcohol -containing products” were registered in Russia. Of these, 27.3% ended in death (111,381 cases). At the same time, there is a trend in a decrease in the number of poisoning themselves and deaths from them. In 2015, the poisoning indicator was 34.5 cases per 100 thousand people, and in 2024 only 20.7 cases per 100 thousand were recorded by a decrease of 40%. Floaters with death for the same period became less by 34.7% (more details – see graphs).
A psychiatrist-narcologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Alexander Burtsev confirms that people of young and middle-aged really began to drink alcohol less. Nevertheless, a certain population group, mainly from 40 years, has already formed dependence. If it is not treated, sooner or later this can lead to death for several reasons: “either we are talking about the use of surrogate alcohol, or we have severe forms of narcological disorders. And another binge, another abuse of such patients leads to deaths. ”
In 2024, the overwhelming number of poisoning accounted for adults (90.3%, 27 thousand cases). 1662 cases of adolescence poisoning from 15 to 17 years (5.5%) and 1291 cases in children under 14 years old (4.2%) were also recorded. “Here we are not talking about a formed dependence-children grow up, gather in companies, try everything,” explains Oleg Parkhomenko, psychiatrist-narcologist of the Rosa clinic.
The report of Rospotrebnadzor also notes that since 2015, the sale of alcoholic beverages has decreased by 6.3% per capita per year. The average volume of retail sales of vodka in 2024 amounted to 5.2 liters per person per year. Above the average Russian indicators are recorded in the Sakhalin Region (11.6 liters per person per year), Karelia (11 l), the Komi Republic (10.4 l), the Magadan region (10.2 l). At the same time, the most poisoning was recorded in the Chuvash Republic, the Samara region, the Altai and Krasnoyarsk region.
Also, Rospotrebnadzor reported on the situation with acute poisoning by smoking mixtures. For nine years, 8042 such cases were registered in the country, of which 237 were a fatal outcome. At the same time, 83.9% of cases occur in adults, another 11.2% – adolescents (including five deaths) and 4.9% for children under 14 years of age (two deaths). In 2024 there were 53 poisoning, one of them ended in the death of an adult.
