Rome's Real Holidays / Day

Rome expects with endlessly long, straight and noisy streets. Thousands of scooters and hundreds of little cars are parked along the sidewalks. It seems that such microscopic machine models can only be met in Italy. From time to time, the fragrance of pizza is healed in the air, but the visiences are tempting to lure a wide variety of breeds. Luxurious sculptures and fountains appear in the most unexpected places.

Sounds stereotypical? Maybe. But also truly.

Classic values

The first day is scheduled for the Roman « Classic » for viewing, because I have never visited this architectural and art pearls. As the first miracle in front of me, St. Basilica of Mary Made. The spectacular church is considered the world's oldest shrine built in honor of the Virgin Mary's vision. The grand structure is on white for free, but you just have to indulge in a small queue for a security check. In the basilica, the eyes are quite or dazzle from all the gold, mosaics, marble and paintings that decorate the interior of the church in a thick layer. As a huge Christian treasure in the basilica, boards from the silk in which Jesus was born is stored. At least the legend says. I leave the church, and even the bright Italian sun seems to be as bright as the gilding of the basilica.

I followed the street that shook to the iconic Spanish stairs. The stairs built in the 18th century stretch a hundred thirty -five steps. This place gained worldwide fame with the appearance of the 1953 film Rome's Hepberna and Gregory Pecca in the lead roles, but was later admitted to other cinema, increasing its recognition. Tourists have gathered here in a large number, feeling like ants. Camera all around, telephones were mounted on selfies, and foreigners are photographed. In the middle of the tourist bar, workers with bran wires at the stairs are carefully secured by the flowerpots.

At the foot of the Spanish staircase, the baroque fountain of 17th century shimmer in the sun, which is made up of a half -sized boat. The story tells us that the boat was rinsed in the flood of the Tiber River, which, as the water retreated, remained sitting in the middle of the square. The event later inspired the sculptor Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini to give the fountain.

Rome and even the most famous fountain in Europe, Trevi, are also very close to it. The luxurious 17th century fountain leaves dumb. Previously, I think: oh, what can be special there, though the movie is already popular. However, standing alongside the huge sculpture formation, I realize that Trevi's fountain deserves its fame. In the center of the fountain, the statue of nearly six meters high in the ocean of God's God – the mighty man boarded a shell in the carriage, which, when flowing in the wind, brutally pulled the water horses. One might think that in the morning the fountain will not be surrounded by tourists, but who gave you! People around it are already crowded in a thick layer. While some over the left shoulder throws a coin, others make photos. After the Trevi Fountain, I also come to the coin – to return! Subscrew alone. It is said that about three thousand euros are thrown into the fountain in one day. The good news is that money is channeled to a charity organization that uses it for noble purposes, such as soup kitchen, sheltering for the poorest people in Rome and other social projects.
