Romanians in the diaspora. Police are investigating
Several Romanians from the diaspora filmed their voting option and made it public on social networks. The Romanian police opened a series of investigations.
In view of the information conveyed in the public space according to which the « Romanians from the Diaspora filmed their vote », the Center for Information and Public Relations within the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police is empowered to communicate the following: The General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police was notified by the Central Electoral Bureau, regarding the materials from the online environment, which refer to the option.
« Given the multiple notifications regarding people who are filmed in the voting booth and make public the records in the online environment, revealing their voting option and violating the secret of the vote, the Central Electoral Bureau draws attention to the illicit character of this behavior. These actions contravene the provisions of art. 37 paragraph (2) of Law no. 370/2004 of law ”.
Previous, BEC transmitted that such a gesture « violates the provisions of Art. 11 paragraph (1) of the decision of the Central Electoral Bureau no. 22D/2025 regarding some measures for the exercise of voting in the elections for the President of Romania from 2025 under conditions of legality, equality and integrity, which stipulates, » photographing or filming by any means of the ballot « . Such actions are confined to the contraventions provided by art. 55 letter. m of Law no. 370/2004 and can attract the contravention liability, under the conditions established by the legislation in force, the notifications received being transmitted to the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police ”.
