Romanians’ day everywhere
On May 25, 2025, the Day of Romanians everywhere is celebrated, according to the provisions of Law 101/2015, which established the marking of this day on the last Sunday of May.
Initially, before 2014, the Day of Romanians everywhere was marked on November 30, at the same time with the feast of Saint Andrew, the first called, the protector of Romania, according to Law no. 299 of November 13, 2007. Article 10 of Law 299/2007 was amended by Law 101/2015, which thus established the marking of Romanians everywhere on the last Sunday of May.
Law 299 of November 13, 2007 on the support granted to Romanians everywhere represents the legal framework for regulating the rights of persons who freely assume the Romanian cultural identity – the persons of Romanian origin and those belonging to the Romanian linguistic and cultural vein, outside the Romanian borders.
The purpose of the law is to maintain, promote and affirm their cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious identity.
The legislative project was supported by 42 deputies and senators and was voted on April 22, 2015, in the Chamber of Deputies, by a number of 299 deputies present. The statement of reasons is shown that the choice of the date to mark such a day came as a result of the requests transmitted by the Romanian communities outside the national borders.
