Social Democrat Marcel Ciolacu also explained the leakage of his party from the government coalition. Numerous coalition politicians demanded his departure.

After the debacle of the pro-European government coalition in the presidential election, the social democratic head of government Marcel Ciolacu announced on Monday evening. He draws the consequences from the coalition’s second bitter election defeat after her joint candidate Crin Antonescu missed the move into the runoff on Sunday, Ciolacu said after a meeting of his Social Democrats (PSD).

The outgoing PSD leader further explained that his party was running out of the government coalition with immediate effect. The cabinet remains in office for a maximum of 45 days, with Interim President Ilie Bolojan, according to coalition circles, should appoint the party -free Minister of Education Daniel David as Head of Prime Minister. After the runoff election of May 18 and the new head of the state, it will then be awarded the government mandate as one of his first official acts.

Ciolacu is « an inhibition »

Before that, the coalition tips had come together to form an urgency meeting in the morning, since numerous coalition politicians demanded by the Ciolacus election fiasco. The Buzau Mayor Constantin Toma (PSD) had openly admitted that the entire management team was no longer wearable. For his part, liberal MP Robert Sighiartau pointed out that the « encouragement for the coalition in the country is becoming increasingly smaller » – in its current form, it cannot continue, but had to « reorganize » after the runoff election. Sighiartau also accused the outgoing head of Prime Minister Ciolacu that his unpopularness had been an « shoe » for the coalition candidate Antonescu. According to his own election bankruptcy in late autumn – at that time the PSD leader also missed the runoff election, Ciolacu was no longer allowed to claim the office of Prime Minister.

Squal election on May 18th

The run -off election on May 18 is decided between the right -wing candidate George Simion and the party -free Bucharest mayor Nicușor Dan. After the repetition of the election on Sunday that was annoyed last year, Simion was in first place with 40.96 percent, while Dan received 20.99 percent of the vote.

Dan explained the runoff election to the direction of the direction as to whether Romania would continue to remain. The citizens are therefore asked to beat this « battle » together with him. It is his duty to convince people that the pro -western path is the only right one. It is not easy, but he remains optimistic « that we ultimately create it, » said the Mayor of Bucharest.

Simion, however, dipped on the election night – the 38 -year -old did not take the journalists, but preferred to contact his voters by video address. He assured that as President, as President, he, as promised, would be entrusted to Prorussian right -wing extremists Călin Georgescu with a high office, probably that of the head of government, since the country needs its « vision ».

Election canceled in November

The vote was a repetition choice. Romania’s Colonel Court had annuled the election of November due to the illegal influence of Russia, ordered a repetition and excluded the right-wing extremist and pro-Russian candidate Georgescu, which had emerged as the winner with an electoral campaign, especially on the Tikok online platform. The public prosecutor’s office has been investigating him since the end of February.

Then Simion stepped into his footsteps. Georgescu appeared as Simion’s ally. On election day, the two even demonstratively went together for voting. He then held his video address in front of an icon-occupied backdrop. According to Romanian political observers, the 38-year-old apparently copies the previous campaign strategy Georgescus: Instead of participating in debates, he prefers to make prophetic announcements against mystical-religious backdrop.
