Romanian detained because he has stolen his own car
A 27-year-old man from Mannheim in southwestern Germany was detained by the police after stealing his own car, DPA reports.
« At this moment, there seems very likely to be two victims, » a police spokesman in the Dortmund city of western Germans said on Monday.
The man informed the police and the insurance company that his car, the BMW brand, was stolen in April, while visiting his family in Romania.
A few weeks later, the vehicle was bought in Germany by a 38 -year -old man from Dortmund.
The 27 -year -old then used localization services to find the car in Dortmund, but instead of reporting to the police that he found the vehicle, drove last week to the city, then opened the car with its own key and returned to Mannheim.
On Thursday, the 38 -year -old man reported the theft of his new car. The police used the location data to find the car in Mannheim and detained the 27 -year -old the same evening.
The investigators were surprised when the man presented to the Police Documents confirming that he had bought the car from the United Kingdom a few years ago.
Both men were able to explain ‘credible’ how they got possession of the car, said the police spokesman.
The vehicle was manufactured in 2017 and is worth 12,000 pounds ($ 13,660). He was confiscated by the police, trying to clarify who the owner is.
Authorities are still looking for thieves in Romania. They are trying at the same time to determine if the 27-year-old is liable to prosecution after stealing his own car.
