Roby Lakatos moved home to Budapest after almost 40 years

Roby Lakatos moved home from Belgium a few years ago and told Blikk that he feels much better in Budapest than in Brussels. The world -renowned violinist is still a worldwide artist, but he is always in a hurry because he has three grandchildren at home. « During the Covid I spent a year and a half in Budapest, we finally decided to move home permanently, » said Roby Lakatos to Blikk. -Honestly, my life hasn’t changed much: I come and go without stopping as I have been to China and London in recent times, the difference is that I did not leave from Brussels, but from Budapest. Otherwise, I feel great in the Hungarian capital, I like to be here, much better than outside. I have lived in Belgium for almost forty years, but in recent years the situation has changed a lot and is not as good as it was. Everything is livelier, more fast.

Roby was born into a family of musicians, and at the age of six he was on stage with Pista Dankó’s violin, and eight years later he played with Sándor Járóka. In 1985 he moved abroad with his band and reached the world famous.

– Both of my daughters got married here in Budapest, and of course, this also contributed to my decision to move home. I still consider myself a citizen of the world, but we came back because of the family. I can be proud to say that I already have three grandchildren. One of them is a boy who is ten years old and plays with me. Misike played with a small violin at the age of one and a half. Just like I did at that time … We also saw in our childhood that everyone in the family is musician and travel a lot Roby said.

In his life, he was a turning point to get to know Yehudi with Menuhin. The American violinist became a mentor of Hungarian talent and later performed together several times.

Menuhin came to the restaurant where we played music because he had heard of me before. He had a great time and then returned to me every month when he visited the royal family. He wanted the public to get to know him, so he offered to give three concerts together. We finally performed in Brussels, London and Paris, which is still a decisive experience for me The Hungarian artist recalled, who wanted to drum in his childhood, but his family didn’t let him, so he met the violin more closely.

– Thanks to Yehudi Menuhin’s professional support, I got to the Carnegie Hall, the Vatican, the Albert Hall in London, to many great places around the world, all recognitionwhat I got. Mexico received an honorary citizen, and in 2021 I received the honor of the Spanish Ministry of Culture in Madrid.
