Robert Francis Prevost is elected Pope, the first American in history. Trees in front of 100,000 believers in the square
The Catholic world already has a new Pope, as Pope Francis passed away a few days ago. He is Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, and will be called XIV Leon. The 69-year-old Pope is the first American in the history of the Catholic Church. At the first appearance, the Pope was very tearful.
About 100,000 believers have gathered in St. Peter’s Square to celebrate the election of the New Pope. In the third round of voting and on the second day of the Conclusion meeting, the Vatican also came out of the White smoke.
A few moments ago from the central lodge of St. Peter’s Basilica, Cardinal Protodacijois Dominique Mambert pronounced this Latin formula, communicating to Rome and around the world the new descendant of Peter: “Eminentissimum ac Revendissimum Dominum, Dominum Cardinem Robertum Franciscum Prevost. Translation into Albanian: « The most prominent and the most revered Mr. Robert Francis Prevost, Cardinal of the Roman Holy Church, who chose the name of Leon XIV. »
Robert Francis Prevost was born on September 14, 1955 in Chicago, USA. He is a member of the Order of St. Augustine and has served for many years as a missionary in Peru. Later, he led the Chiclayo diocese and was recognized for his commitment to the construction of poor communities and the education of new clergy. In 2023, Pope Francis appointed the prefect of the department for bishops in the Vatican – one of the most important posts in the structure of the church.
With extensive international experience and deeply committed to reform, the new Pope is seen as a figure that can continue the spirit of Pope Francis, but also bring more transparency, involvement and interfaith dialogue. The church now enters into a new chapter with Leon XIV at the top, keeping the hope for a more open and closer church alive.
