Rite optimistically look at the deal to increase protection expenses / day

Rite today met with foreign ministers and diplomats from Italy, France, Germany, Britain, Poland, Spain, Ukraine and the European Union (EU).

The United States has urged allies to defense 5% of gross domestic product (GDP), and on June 24 and 25 at the Hague’s NATO Summit, countries will try to agree on the division of such obligations into two parts. The proposal stipulates that NATO member states will need to increase defense spending to 3.5% of GDP, while another 1.5% of GDP will be allocated to defense -related needs, such as the development of double application infrastructure.

« We are discussing the decisions we make in The Hague. I am really pretty sure, (..) that all 32 Member States will come to a common position, » Rite revealed to journalists when going to Rome.

Foreign ministers from France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Britain and Germany, as well as the EU’s top spokeswoman for foreign affairs, Kaja Kallas, then made a joint statement, emphasizing that European countries have to play an even greater role in taking care of their own security.

« The NATO Summit in The Hague will demonstrate our unity based on a persistent transatlantic link, a strong commitment to protect each other and a fair burden distribution, » the joint statement said. It also confirms support for Ukraine, represented by Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha in Rome and welcomed the peace efforts of US President Donald Trump.

In a statement, Russia is calling for unacceptable requirements and prerequisites to prove that it is truly interested in achieving peace. The statement also condemns recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilians, stressing that this is a clear violation of international law.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani welcomed the rolling plan to increase defense expenses. He admitted that Italy should increase defense spending, but stated that it took more time – about ten years. Italy is currently spending 1.5% of GDP for protection.

From June 15 to June 17, the G7 Summit will be held in Canada, where allies are likely to try to encourage US President Donald Trump to take a more aggressive stance against Russia.

« Euro -Atlantic security depends on how we will cope with Russia’s threats. The interests of Europe and the United States are still complementary in this respect, » said Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorsky. « Russia’s suspension is still in the long -term interest of the United States. Russia’s defeat in Ukraine would be the victory of the United States and, in particular, President Trump. »
