Riigikogo deprived Calle Laanet’s deputy inviolability
On Thursday, Riigikogu, at the suggestion of the Chancellor, deprived the deputy inviolability of Calle Laanet, a member of the Riigikogu, who suspected of fraud so that he could continue the trial.
54 out of 101 member of the Riigikogogu voted for depriving Laanette of deputy inviolability. No one voted against, reports BNS.
On April 29, the General Prosecutor of the country Astrid Asi sent a request to the Chancellor of Justice with a request to offer the Riigikog to deprive Calle Laanette of deputy inviolability, since the district prosecutor’s office for economic and corruption crimes completed the pre -trial proceedings in the criminal case, in which the laanite was suspected of fraud.
According to suspicion, in 2022 and 2023, Calle Laanet, being a deputy of Riigikogu and the Minister of Justice, submitted applications for reimbursement of housing rental on the basis of a lease agreement with him. Since the employees of the Riigikogu’s office and the Ministry of Justice did not know about this, according to suspicion, more than 13,000 euros paid a lease of housing without legal grounds. The apartment belonged to Laanette’s stepson.
In accordance with the procedure for reimbursing housing costs for members of the Government and Deputies of Riigikogu, it is impossible to require reimbursement of housing expenses if the lease agreement was concluded with him in understanding the law on the fight against corruption.
The deputy of the riegikogo Kalle Laanet himself advocates to take off his deputy inviolability on the proposal of the Chancellor of Justice, Julle Madiz.
“In order to achieve legal clarity as soon as possible, yes, I support the removal of deputy inviolability so that the court can express my opinion,” Laanet said.
