Right-wing parties in the EU: Similarities and differences – the world
No parliamentary party wants any cooperation with the right-wing alternative to Germany. In some other countries of the European Union, right-wing parties are not so insulated at all.
The German Federal Protection Office (BFV) declared an alternative to Germany (AFD) for « checked right extreme » party. The AFD is fighting with legal means. Therefore, the Office temporarily put that classification on hold, but still remains at that rate. However, this classification reduced the discussion of the AFD ban.
What is the situation with similar parties in other European countries? There is nothing about the bans there. On the contrary, in some countries such parties participate in power or are even at the head of the Government.
Austria: Freedomarian Austrian Party
The Austrian Chancellor Kristijan Stoker from the Conservative Austrian People’s Party (FPÖ) is a Freedom of Austria (FPÖ) is not at any « fire wall » towards that party – which is often used when it comes to the relationship between other parties according to AFD.
Such a situation in Austria is not surprising, given that the ÖVP has been in the coalition government twice, for the first time, in 2000. Years. At that time, this was caused by a scandal in the European Union, and other Member States have been reduced contacts with Vienna’s government at a minimum.
FPÖ is a relatively old party in the Austrian parliamentary history. It was founded in 1955. by former Nazi, but later moderately changed. Like AFD, FPÖ is against immigration of foreigners, globalization and criticizes the EU. Perhaps because she has participated in power several times, FPÖ is today as a party ready for compromises, and less ideological.
At the past parliamentary elections, she first became the strongest force. However, it failed to re-compile a coalition with ÖVP. According to current surveys, it is now even more convinced in leadership than in the elections.
France: National Gathering
National gathering (RN DueMblement, RN) is from its founding in 1972. Long time. Marin Le Pen, the founders of the party Jean-Marie Le Pena, renamed the National Front (Front National) and somewhat moved the party towards the political center. So her party still criticizes immigration and Islam, but she moved away from anti-Semitic. That twist brought her new voters. Le Pen was running three times at the presidential election – and even though she lost in the second round every time, she constantly increased the number of votes won.
For now, the verdict for the emergency proneway excludes Marin Le Pen from the candidacy in the elections over the next five years. If she could still run again, or if the party president Zordan Bardel, according to surveys, there were good chances of winning perhaps already in the first round. At the 2024 parliamentary elections. RN has already become the strongest force.
The propensity for RN protectionism and antizatism, ie believing in the state as someone who is the main to solve problems, is a very french characteristic – and there is a difference with German AFD. And Marin Le Pen was distanced from AFD anyway – supposedly the German party is too radical. This, however, could be just a tactical move in the internal plan to look more serious.
Italy: Italy’s brothers
At the head of the parties, the Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia) is, which is a paradox, one woman: George Melona – a religiously most successful Prime Minister of Radical Right in Europe. Many members of her party continue to look positively on fascism, the Italian version of Nazism. George Melona once said she had a « relaxed attitude towards fascism », and the former fascist leader and Hitler’s ally, Benita Mussolini, called a « good politician ».
In the 1922 election campaign, which brought her party to power, the slogan was: « God, family and homeland ». Melona and her party are especially radical of the right in social issues: attack abortions, homosexuals and LGBTQ-persons, and of course migrants.
But, unlike many similar politicians in Europe, Melona is clearly occupied by Russia in the war against Ukraine. That is why it stated that there are « insurmountable differences » between her and AFD. At the same time, Meloni maintains close relations with the American President Donald Tramp, so it is in Brussels prices as a transatlantic intermediary.
Sweden: Swedish Democrats
The roots of the Swedish Democrats lie in the extremely right movement « Let Sweden remain Sweden » (Viwara Sverige Svenskt). Just before the crossing to a new millennium, the party tried to distance himself from his old environments and perform more moderate. Today’s party president, Jimmy Akeson, he continued in that direction, so Swedish Democrats were in Election 2022. became the second strongest force in parliament. Since then, they support the minority government of the conservative Prime Minister of Ulf Kristerson.
Their main theme is – as in many other countries – immigration. Great success in the elections especially brought them widespread criminal activity gangs in large Swedish cities where they are in a large percentage of people with migrant origin. Non-exclusively for the party of such orientation is that today support environmental protection and combating climate change.
The Netherlands: Party for Freedom
After the parliamentary elections, 2023, the Freedom Party (Party Voor de Vrijheid, PVV) became the strongest force and leads the coalition government with three other parties. Given that Vilders’s attitudes were too radical, the prime minister has been appointed DIK SOF which NNI is a member of any parties. PVV is unique in that Wilders is its only member – and Members and Ministers are officially just sympathizers of the party. The Wilders can thus determine the party program and appoint candidates in the elections.
The main topic of PVV is the fight against immigration, especially against Islam. Wilders go away – wants to ban the Qur’an and the construction of new mosques. However, immediately before the election elections, he said he would « put his attitudes on the ice » so that he could rule. Otherwise, it opposes the climate protection measures and sharply criticizes the EU as « too intrusive ».
United Kingdom: Reformist Party
Reform UK Party has experienced several transformations: it was created as a separate part of the independent party (UK Independence Party, UKI), whose main goal was Bregzit, the expanse of Great Britain from the European Union. After achieving this goal, it was renamed to the Bregzit party, and then at the United Kingdom Repormist Party. The Nigel Farage – Nightmare Madrid of British political elites had a key role in everything.
Today, the party is primarily committed to drastic reduction in the number of immigrants – and thus puts pressure on the ruling Labor, but also on conservatives. The farage accuses both parties for inefficiency in relation to that topic.
And with success: Labor premiere Kir Starmer recently promised to reduce both illegal and working immigration – only a few days after the reformist party had good results in local elections. According to the latest polls, reformists are even a little in front of the Labor and Conservatives. The official British goal, to be a climatic neutral, Deputy Reformist Richard Leader calls « absurd ».
