Return of Written off: Left Way to Success In Election – The World
The star of the election for the Bundestag 2025 is one almost written-off party: the left. It can thank the combination of old and new ones. And one of the key elements was a campaign on social networks.
« The left lives! » – The President of that party Jan Van Aken was enthusiastic masses at Berlin after the closing of polling stations in the Bundestag elections until the results of the results are 8.5 percent for the left. In the end, this percentage climbed even at 8.8 percent.
How was this possible, after the party was still tavorrh at about three percent of support?
« All of you have enabled this resurrection! » – Thanks to the star of social networks, Hajdi Rajhinek party, which carried out the intensive door campaign to the door in previous weeks to attract voters. Its role, as a leading candidate along Jana Van Aken, is not mentioned.
How was the left managed to win young voters?
About the range Hajdi Rajhinek on social networks ICS and tiktok was discussed much in the end of the election campaign. As well as her speeches in the Bundestag, after the democrichant parties of CDA and CSU with its candidate for Friedrih Mercom, along with a real-extreme alternative for Germany (AFD) and voted for drastic tightening of asylum policy.
There are many reasons why the Left at the last minute managed to win a large number of voters – primarily younger. In the age group of 18 to 24, the party became number one with 25 percent, in front of AFD (21 percent). In the 1921 election. Two other parties have been felt: green (23 percent) and FDP (21 percent).
Used to be the green of the most popular among young people
Even an expert for election campaigns, a political policy from the free university in Berlin Antonios Suris, surprised by a turn over. From the scientific aspect, a very large voter oscillation in terms of commitment to some party is an interesting discovery, he says in the conversation for Deutce Vele. « I remember that we often talked about the turn of young to the right of the past years in the past years. » That trend still exists, but at the same time there is turning left.
Once, the green were very popular among young people, especially at the time of hundreds of thousands of them participated in the climatic protests of Friedays for Future movements. But that enthusiasm splashed over time. What does that mean for young voters? « A certain type of voter, in the end, did not show it viable, » Suris concludes.
Green warns not to vote for left
The face of the election Left has achieved great success with its social network campaign, Suris points out. But it must not be neglected that the party's campaign in the field, among people, was very strong. « The left was not only present on the Internet, but also on the street, » a political policy is reminded of Berlin.
In favor of the left, it was what was the opposition party. « She was a somewhat outsider, while the green was part of the government. » According to the first analyzes, a large number of voters moved from green on the left. It may have contributed to that green on social networks warned that the voices for left – thrown votes, thinking the left would not enter the Bundestag. It is possible that many voters made precisely decided to give the voice to that party.
Classic left-handed themes: rent, salaries, inflation
Suris In this context, he also mentions young, progressive people who are open to refugees and whose views of the left may be better than the green. But for now, they are just assumptions for now. « We can't prove it yet, but the result suggests that. »
In addition, voters attracted classical social topics, those affected by people with more modest income: high tenants, salaries, inflation. And that is one of the reasons why the left experienced the climb.
Triumph in the neighborhood of Neukeln in Berlin
« The party also has candidates who are the embodiment of this program, » adds a suris and as an example of stating the triumph in the Berlin neighborhood of Neukeln. It is a settlement with a large number of migrants, where many people live from social assistance.
This electoral district is located in the former West Berlin, a city that was divided into reunification of Germany in 1990. years. Ferat Bow from the left won there a direct manda – what happened for the first time in history.
Failure of the Alliance Sara Vagenknecht
Party Alliance Sara Vagenknecht (BSW), which in January 2024. Separated from the left, a secondary role, both in Neukel, and in the complete Berlin. At the city level, she won 6.6 percent of the votes, while the left, with almost 20 percent of the votes in the capital of Germany, became the strongest political force.
In September and October 2024. The situation was quite different in the elections in three East German provinces: the left experienced a difficult defeat everywhere. « I think no one could predict this turn, » says the political analyst Suris says. His explanation: BSW did not have the momentum as the left got thanks to good campaigns.
Many voters were not sure what BSW is true, except for Sara Vagenknecht's personality. The original euphoria around that party was probably past. Suris also reminds the rapid entry of that party in the governments of the Federal Provinces of Brandenburg and Thuringia, which may not have brought the desired effect for BSW.
Since the doubt to the triumph
And Gregor Gizi, the party's veteran, was surprised and touched by the success of the left. Just a few months ago, he suspected that his party would be able to cross the census of five percent, so together with two long-term colleagues, he launched a campaign called « Mission Silberlocke).
The goal was to win at least three direct terms in order to provide the presence in the Bundestag to the German election law, according to the German election law, and without five percent.
In the end, that plan B was neither needed – the left won enough votes. Gizi knows who he owes that success: new, mostly young members and the party leadership.
The leading candidate in the elections was 36 years of Hajdi Rajhinek, which shares that function with a 63-year-old Jana Van Aken. In the Presidency of the Party, the 35-year-old Ines Sweltner, which was only in June 2024. entered Levica.
Gregor Gizi – the oldest Prophet of the Bundestag
At the moment of triumph, Gizi recalls the years filled with internal struggles in the party. « We were in an existential crisis, because we just dealt with ourselves, » he says. The lowest point was division within the party and the establishment of the BSW.
Now, however, that 77-year-old politician is eagerly waiting for the introductory speech as the oldest MP on the constituent session of the Bundestag.
For Sarah Vagenknecht, however, these elections could also mean the end of a political career. After failing because BSW failed to cross the census, disappointed that he believes that the media and the public opinion polling agencies were disclosed.
However, there is still a glimmer of hope for BSW. The party considers the possibility of a lawsuit before the Constitutional Court, because allegedly many Germans abroad could not vote for organizational problems.
