In no sector do people stay longer at work than healthcare. With 63 years and 7 months, the sector has the highest average retirement age in the country, according to an analysis published by HR expert Acerta on Sunday in response to the Day of Care.

In healthcare, employees only stop working at an average age of 63.62 years. They are on average slightly older than people who are working in the hospitality industry (63.57) and the services and financial sector (63.55). The construction and related sectors close the row with an average age of 62.4 years.

« The efforts made to keep people in healthcare to the end of their career at work – we are thinking of further focusing on workable and agile work, with attention to physical and mental well -being and system of the so -called ripple days – have an effect, » says Ellen van Grunderbeek, legal expert care sector at Acerta.

Enhance

Nevertheless, according to Acerta, the federal coalition agreement contains additional measures to strengthen the attractiveness of the sector. According to the HR expert, that is also necessary, because it is mainly the elderly who enter. Almost half of the entrants are older than 35 years. More than 16 percent are even older than 45 years.

Care must also rely more and more to foreign workers in order to cope with the demand. Today one in ten employees is non-Belgian, while ten years ago it was one in fifteen.

According to Acerta, controlled labor migration from a country like India can be an opportunity. « At the same time here are people who could strengthen our healthcare sector, through the various side -entry processes that exist, for example for recognized refugees with a background – through experience and/or training – in healthcare, » concludes Van Grunderbeek.
