The first search about two years after the last measure so far in the popular holiday region had been started at the request of the German authorities.

After the search in the case of Madeleine McCann in Portugal, who has been missing for more than 18 years, results remain open. « More information about the backgrounds are currently not published, » it was recently said by the leading public prosecutor in Braunschweig. Questions for a balance sheet to search in the Lagos district in the south of the country initially left the investigators unanswered.

On Thursday evening, authorities in Portugal declared the measure in which Portuguese and German officials had been taking part in the beginning of the week. The first search about two years after the last measure so far in the popular holiday region had been started at the request of the German authorities.

Abandoned houses, water wells and cisterns in focus

In the approximately 50 hectare, closed search area not far from the Algarve-Ortes Praia da Luz, a box was carried out of a ruin of a house, but nothing became known about the content of which, as the newspaper « Correio da Manhã » reported. According to the Portuguese sheet, several abandoned houses as well as water wells and cisterns were examined in the search.

The British girl Maddie disappeared on May 3, 2007 shortly before his fourth birthday without a trace from a holiday complex in Praia da Luz. German investigators suspect that it has been kidnapped and murdered. They suspect a 48-year-old who is currently in a German prison because of another case.

The search for the search remains unclear

According to « Spiegel » information, the new search could decrease, among other things, to the statement of a fellow inmate of the suspect. In court, an earlier fellow prisoner had testified that he told him that he had risen from a window with a girl and was supported on the window sill. The public prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig does not provide any content on the years of investigation.

The law enforcement agency from Lower Saxony is responsible for the case because the suspect had his last residence in Germany in the city. The predominant sexual offender is currently serving a prison sentence because of the rape of a 72 -year -old American in Praia da Luz – the place where Madeleine disappeared. However, there is no charges against him in the Maddie case and the presumption of innocence applies. The man could be released in early 2026.

Suspect in autumn because of a different matter in court

However, it is clear that the man has at least one court appointment beforehand. At the Oldenburg District Court, a trial against him is scheduled for him on October 27, as a court spokesman for the German Press Agency confirmed. The accused is accused of insulting a JVA employee in Oldenburg.

The city’s district court had sentenced the 48-year-old to a prison sentence of six weeks. Because both the public prosecutor and defense made an appeal against this, an appeal negotiation now occurs. (APA)
