Restaurant Brasserie Kluiz was hit by a heavy kitchen fire on Sunday afternoon. During the Father’s Day lunch with eighty guests, a fire broke out on the grill in the kitchen. There were no injuries, but three people with breathing problems had to be helped in ambulances.

The fire started in the kitchen, near the grill and near the extractor hood. The fire smelled his way in the false ceiling and spread rapidly to the roof, resulting in enormous smoke development.

At the time of the fire, the restaurant was completely full. Eighty guests had to be evacuated. « Our restaurant was full. All reservations are forced to be canceled, » says the heavily affected manager Jean-Julien Carlier (39). Carlier has been running the well -running business for four years.

Several hikers in the Kluisbos saw the smoke rise and unexpected witnesses of the disaster. Fire brigades from Avelgem, Kluisbergen, Oudenaarde, Ronse and Tournai arrived on the spot.

The material damage to the building is considerable, but there were no injuries. Three people with breathing problems were taken care of on the spot and received first aid in the ambulance.
