The hostility of Donald Trump towards science is no longer a threat: it is a war against knowledge, a global offensive against academics. The destruction of scientific institutions is not content to break research in progress in the United States, it causes global science to be lost in precious years in the fight against climate change and ecological transition, at the very moment when the urgency is absolute.
But faced with this sinking, is France able to resume the torch? Our country, rich in a leading intellectual tradition and an exceptional scientific community, could be a bastion of knowledge. But this unique potential is now struck by existential threats, not by Trump, nor by the gestures of Elon Musk, but by this sneaky evil that is budgetary asphyxiation. The noose tightens, the cuts accumulate, and it is another form of destruction that threatens our researchers: political indifference and the disengagement of the State.
I launch an alarm cry. On the edge of the abyss where research flicker, threatened with collapse, faculties are in a quasi-bankruptcy. At the very least, almost three billion euros is missing for our universities and nearly 70,000 personnel for teaching S
