Research: Almost every other one says that as a child, he has experienced the mental or physical violence of parents

A recent study looked at the experiences of parents' violence and sexual violence as a child.

As a child experienced by parents' mental or physical violence is extremely common, according to Statistics Finland about the study. According to it, almost every other one has experienced violence by parents under the age of 15.

60 % of women and half of men said they had testified of violence between their parents when they were under 15 years of age. About one in three said they had experienced spiritual violence by parents.

Respondents were women aged 16-74 and men aged 18-74. The data is based on the material of the 2021 study by Statistics Finland in Finland 2021.

Father's physical violence said they had experienced 18 % of men and 14 % of women. In the case of the mother, violence is reported a little less, about one in ten.

Overture Miina Keski-Petajä Statistics Finland states in the announcement that the violence experienced in childhood and proven violence is strongly linked to, among other things, the intimate partner violence in life.

Parental In addition to the violence committed by the study, the study investigated the sexual violence and persecution experienced by the population under the age of 15.

Sexual violence said they had experienced 14 percent of women and four percent of men. It means about one in ten respondents.

In women, the experiences of sexual violence are clearly more common than in men. Nine out of ten said the author was a man.

The victim is most typically the threshold for puberty. 15 % of the respondents were under six % of the victim. In four of five cases, the author was familiar to the victim.

Respondents are of different ages and their experience is distributed over many decades, Keski-Petäjä points out in the release. The answers are also influenced by how the experiences are perceived and what they are remembered even decades later.
