Rescues a contract with three large municipalities

The Directorate of Labor has terminated an agreement with municipalities aimed at serving applicants for international protection. The mayor of Hafnarfjordur says the dismissal is accompanied by great uncertainty.

Applicants for international protection are people who come here to the country and request recognition of their position as refugees. It has been on the shoulders of local authorities in recent years to serve some of those people against the Directorate of Labor while requested whether their application will be approved.

This is a termination of a contract that extends to Hafnarfjordur, Reykjavik and Reykjanesbær.

« Certain uncertainty that comes with this »

In a conversation with mbl.is, Valdimar Víðisson, mayor of Hafnarfjörður, says that the decision of the Directorate of Labor was notified of the town about two weeks ago. A letter on the termination of the agreement was formally received on Wednesday.

He says the town is now reviewing the effect of the dismissal, but it is clear that it will follow changes and uncertainty.

« Of course, we feel sorry for the fact that a certain group has been served through this agreement and there is certain uncertainty that comes with it. It gives a completely eye a way. »

Will request more information

When asked, he says the town will request information from the Directorate of Labor on the next steps. It is unknown how the service will be below the person who receives it.

« There is an experience and knowledge within the municipality on these issues and this close service that is being provided through this agreement here within the municipality is naturally extremely important for these individuals who need it and as a result this uncertainty is. »

Cannot comment on the changes at the time

« We want to make sure that the services that the municipalities have been providing – that it will be guaranteed in some way that it will continue to be granted through the parties who are taking this completely over, » says Valdimar.

He says he cannot comment further on the changes that the termination may have on the municipalities, but that lines will hopefully be explained in the coming days.
