Reorganization of federal police leads to anxiety among directors

Brussels

There is not yet a ready-made plan, but an impending reform of the federal police leads to much concern among police directors. They fear that their function will disappear or will be completely eroded.

According to the Coalition Agreement, the federal police must evolve into an « even more specialized organization with more operational efficiency ». A little saying sentence, but with the federal police, a chief commissioner was immediately put to work to work out a plan. That plan has not yet been discussed, but a number of details were already leaking and they go in the direction of a simplification of the police structure.

It seems that the so -called ‘Dirco’s’ will have to lose power, or will even disappear. Dirco’s are the so -called Coordination Directors, a provincial police chief as it were. They are head of a (grand) intervention corps per province or district. The control rooms and the so -called district information cross points are also under their authority.

Too few tasks

In the new plan, the intervention corps would come under the authority of the General Reserve in Brussels. For example, there would be few tasks for the Dirco’s. An adjustment that leads to a lot of worries with them. « Especially since they are not involved in the consultation, there is a lot of worries. And even some anger, » says well -light sources.

« We did indeed learn that there is a lot of worries, » says Joery Dehaes of the ACV police union. According to him, the Dirco’s have every reason to be worried based on the leaked details. « If the Dirco’s disappear, we wonder in the first place what will happen to their staff. Will they transfer to the local police? Will they all have to go to Brussels? We are curious, and somewhat worried, » said the trade unionist.

« Hopefully the police will soon provide clarity. Especially for small local police zones that get a lot of support from the so -called Dirco’s, this plan can have major consequences ». According to our information, all Dirco’s have around 500 people together.

At the federal police, the press service states that there is indeed « a exercise » going on. « But it’s much too early to say something meaningful about that, » it sounds. « No decisions have been made yet. »(CDS)
