« Given the facts and the number of complaints, this case is likely to come to the correctional court, » confirms Jérôme Deumer, spokesperson for the labor auditorate. « The case could be submitted before the start of the judicial recess. The process itself will take place later because all parties must be given the time to exchange their conclusions. »
The investigation, which lasted two years and ten months, has now been completed and concerns a total of thirteen complaints from officials who are (or have been) working in the Walloon Parliament in Namur. It’s all about people who have worked under Janssens.
According to the complainants, Janssens has created a fear climate, he has exerted terrible pressure, he has intimidated or insulted people, humiliated employees and had outbursts of trivial matters.
Demanding
The former clerk has always denied that he has intimidated or harassed people. He claims that he is simply demanding and wants to use the same high standards for everyone. He only regrets that some have misinterpreted his words and behaviors.
Janssens now risks a fine of 4,800 euros to 48,000 euros and/or a prison sentence from six months to three years. If the facts have been proven, the victims can demand compensation.
