Reflections on the usefulness of the vote
Pedro Nuno Santos and Rui Tavares agreed on Tuesday, in a debate broadcast by SIC, that an alliance between PS and free would be a good government, but diverged as to the result of the legislatures.
The PS secretary-general said that the free « has very important contributions to making and the PS is very available to listen and reflect on them », ensuring that Rui Tavares’ party « has more possibility to influence a PS led government than AD. »
Pedro Nuno Santos added that it is “even important for the PS to win the elections, so that some important proposals and contributions of the free” should advance, with Rui Tavares to answer: “Someone believes that, about this useful vote thing, that if the free was the PS demand a prior hearing that does not have that vote (useful that went to the PS) would help the measure to be implemented?”
The theme guided the debate and Rui Tavares said that if this Thursday of the ISCTE/ICS was surrounded by the polls, it would destroy the useful vote « because even with the left parties diminished, not even thus the PS arrived there. »
The leader of Livre, who dealt with the opponent of the debate for you, said that « Marcelo has already decided: he will not give possession to any government that does not guarantee governability, » adding: « I even wish you get ahead of AD, to have one more vote. You do not need to steal 50,000 from free, you just have to get 25 thousand from AD, which was what you lacked from again. »
Pedro Nuno Santos took the cue to remember that the President of the Republic will call to form the most voted party and that he will do the same now. « If the PS splashes an AD government and submit later this government would be barred by AD and the arrival, so the dispersion of votes is so important, » said the socialist. « I am not saying not to vote for free, but there are several electoral circles – Braga, Aveiro, Santarém – the difference of votes, in BE and free, would allow the PS to have deputies to defeat the AD, » he added.
The preventive investigation of the Public Prosecution Service to Pedro Nuno Santos was the one that had started the debate, with the PS leader to deny having addressed the prosecutor but “to the anonymous denunciations that everyone realizes that they have political goals: intimidating me and passing the idea of equivalence with Luís Montenegro”.
The socialist leader refused to be in the same plan as the PSD leader, since doubts about himself is about the acquisition of two properties and not that « someone helped finance houses outside the family circuit. » Rui Tavares replied that he was in the debate to « talk about those who have no house, not who is lucky to have two houses. »
About corruption, Pedro Nuno Santos said that much of the legislation that exists to combat corruption was done during socialist governance, speaking above all « to ensure prevention. » Rui Tavares says the party « proposes and the PS never wanted the rulers to be subject to previous auditions in Parliament », noting that « the last two European Portuguese commissioners were subject to prior hearing. »
