Red Cross volunteers sold 410,000 plasters for local departments

The annual plaster sale of Red Cross-Flanders is over. This year 410,000 plasters were sold, 5,000 more than last year and a new record. The proceeds will go to the local departments, which organize first aid courses and purchase materials.

After more than sixty years of sticker sale, Red Cross-Flanders switched to plasters in 2023. The Fleming seems to taste that choice: in 2023 400,000 plasters were sold, last year that figure rose to 405,000.

The third edition of the plaster sales were central characters Jommeke and Suske & Wiske. Volunteers from more than 200 local departments en masse on the streets to sell their plasters. They sold 410,000, good for a yield of 4.1 million euros and a new record. They can use this proceeds for the purchase of teaching materials for free first aid courses, they save for ambulances, intervention items and clothing for volunteers, tents and material for first aid posts and social initiatives such as the Zorgbib or the bridge figure project.

In the province of Antwerp, where most people also live, 124,490 plasters were sold. In West Flanders there were 98,025, in East Flanders 93,565. Flemish Brabant was good for a sale of 54,320 pieces, in Limburg 35,250 plasters got a new owner. Finally, 4,350 plasters were sold online.
